Round 2

( Viewing image 1 of 3 )Next

I arrived at the Lausitz hoping for a more straight forward weekend than Hockenheim!

Fridays roll out went ok with dry conditions.

Saturday morning the circuit was wet so we did 2 or 3 runs on rain tyres.  We then waited for the track to dry out so that we could start our programme on slick tyres.  In dry conditions my car felt good and our preperation for the weekend went according to plan.

At the begining of Qualifying the track was dry but it started to rain just as we were leaving the pits for Q1.  I pushed to get out first so i could get a lap in on slicks as we knew this would be crucial to go through to Q2.  This ended nicely for me as I ended Q1 in P1.

Q2 was fully wet.  The track was very slippery and difficult to drive.  I didn't think we got the most out of the car and i was pleasantly surprised when i heard over the radio that I was through to Q3.

Q3 was again difficult with the track conditions and my car not feeling at its optimim.   I ended the session in P7 although was promoted to P6 because of Gary Paffett's 5 place grid penalty from the previous race.

Sunday was dry although we were told there was always a possibility of rain for the race.  My start was not fantastic and Gary got ahead of me on the run to Turn 1.  I was careful into Turn 1 as i didnt want to get any damage like i did at Hockenheim but unfortunatly i was overtaken by Maro Engel.  For the first nineteen laps my speed was compromised because i was behind Maro.  Once he had pitted for his second stop i had a clear track and was able to post competetive and consistant lap times which enabled me to get ahead of him and Mike Rockenfeller after my second stop.  In my last stint I managed to catch up with Timo Scheider, I had two opportunities to overtake him but he blocked quite aggresively.

I finished the race 6th after having posting the fastest lap.  I crossed the line 2.1 seconds behind Mattias Ekstrom who finished 3rd.

After a difficult start I felt that this result was a good recovery by myself and Team Persson.  I really enjoyed the race!!
