Jamie signs off with third

Jamie Green wrapped up his 2008 DTM season with another podium finish at Hockenheim.

Jamie made a solid start to run fourth, but when Mattias Ekstrom forced Paul di Resta wide at the hairpin it created a nice gap down the inside, which he gratefully accepted to take second.

Jamie’s Mercedes-Benz team-mate Paul di Resta was fighting for the championship with race leader Timo Scheider, so when Jamie saw him running third in his mirrors he moved aside to let di Resta mount a challenge for the lead.

“I had an okay start, and then Mattias left the door open, so I was able to take second,” said Jamie. “With Paul fighting for the title I knew it was best to let him go, and for the first stint both he and I were faster than Scheider, so I thought there was a good chance for us.

“But Timo gained some time during the first round of stops, and during the second round I lost some time with traffic when I rejoined. In the final stages I caught right up to Paul, but there was no sense in challenging him for position. Ideally it would have been best if I’d have been able to attack Scheider at the start, but as that wasn’t the case third place was as good as it was going to get today.”

Third place, and six points, meant Jamie ended the season fourth in the points. His two wins and 10 top eight finishes in 11 races, were a satisfactory year’s work.

“To get two wins in a series as competitive as the DTM is very satisfying,” he said. “The races at Barcelona and Le Mans ruined the championship for me, but I can take heart in the fact that neither of them were my fault really. In Barcelona there was the incident with Ekstrom, while in Le Mans I’d qualified on the front row before the weather got the better of us. All in all, I’d say it was a good season.”

Jamie is now able to take a well-earned break before testing and preparations for the 2009 season kick-off with the winter test programme.
